Here’s what readers think of stories written with my method
Let me ask you a question. Why do you think you got stuck?
Most writers I know would tell me they don’t feel inspired. Is this you?
So many authors think they need to be inspired every time they sit at the computer to write. If they are not inspired, they will force the story, and it won’t feel authentic.
What if I told you that the authenticity and spontaneity of your story don’t depend on how often you are inspired but on how wisely you use that inspiration?
You don’t need constant inspiration to write a great story – therefore, lack of inspiration is probably not what’s stopping you.
you wait for inspiration to happen. If it doesn’t, you just don’t write and wait for that inspiration to come to you, maybe tomorrow.
Imagine that you have a great idea while you’re waiting for the green light at the traffic lights. You sit at your PC the moment you get home, and you start to write the beginning of that story as fast as you can because you’re afraid that the inspiration will go. But there comes a moment when you have to stop.
The day after, you go on, and the day after as well, but as the story progresses, you realise that you need to sort out a lot of things you didn’t think about in the beginning, and excitement decreases by the day until you stop relying on it and start relying on another possible burst of inspiration.
Before you know it, waiting for inspiration is what you do most of the time.
Inspiration will be there every time you need it.
Imagine that you have a great idea while you’re waiting for the green light at the traffic lights. You grab pen and paper the moment you get home, and you jot down the entire story arc, beginning to end, fuelled by that burst of inspiration. Then, you spend the rest of the day flashing out that idea.
The day after, you start writing your story. And you continue for several days. And to be honest, you don’t even look at your roadmap again – until a day comes when you don’t feel particularly inspired and hit an unexpected problem.
Then you pull out your roadmap – the one you created on that day when inspiration struck. It shows you exactly where you are and where you need to go. Rereading it not only clears your mind but also brings back some of that excitement. The heart of your inspiration is in that roadmap, and now it flows back to you.
With a clear direction, you sit down at your computer and start writing again.
What is the scenario you’d choose for yourself?
